Mike Rowe, who has gained notoriety as a spokesperson for hard-working men and women on Discovery channel's "Dirty Jobs" program, is featured in a new video about egg farmers titled "It's A Tough Job."
The video, made by the United Egg Producers (UEP), documents how eggs are produced on typical egg farms and features Indiana producer and UEP president Bob Krouse, according to an announcement. It also features experts who discuss the benefits of modern egg production, including food safety, animal welfare and environmental stewardship.
Rowe became familiar with egg production when he visited an egg farm last year and acts as narrator of the video.
"In so many ways, America's farmers are under siege today," Rowe says in the video. "Every year, we expect them to grow more and more food on less and less land, and every year, they do it."
He explains that he is participating in the video to support egg producers in particular and farmers in general.
"We are pleased that someone of Rowe's caliber and credentials would consider being in this video," UEP senior vice president Chad Gregory said, adding that Rowe becomes involved in only those projects "that he truly believes in."
The video can be viewed at www.usaeggfarming.com and www.mikeroweworks.com/farmers.
UEP represents 97% of U.S. egg farmers who produce eggs in modern cage and cage-free operations, as well as free-range, organic and other specialty eggs.
Beef video
Elsewhere, the Texas Beef Council and Texas Farm Bureau have put together a video about modern beef production that addresses animal welfare, environmental sustainability and beef nutrition and safety, according to an announcement.
The video features three beef industry families and allows consumers "to better understand the dedication and hard work cattle producers put in each and every day to supply" nutritious and wholesome beef to consumers in the U.S. and around the world, according to beef council executive vice president Richard Wortham.
